The draws for one of the first big tournaments of the year are set for the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. beginning this week.

The tournament is the first of nine Masters 1,000 events of the ATP World Tour season, featuring most of the top players in the world. The women's draw is also well attended, keeping it just a step below the four Grand Slams.

Here are the complete seeds, draws and analysis from each singles bracket at Indian Wells.

Serena Williams was expected to be the top seed in this tournament but chose to withdraw after the draws were announced.

"I have not been able to train due to my knees and am disappointed I cannot be there," Williams said in a statement, per the tournament's official site. "I will keep moving forward and continue to be positive. I look forward to being back as soon as I can."

Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times noted the impact this will have on the rankings:

Ben Rothenberg @ BenRothenberg

Serena's withdrawal means Angelique Kerber will reclaim the #1 ranking after Indian Wells. Serena didn't play a match in this stint at #1.

Many were excited about the potential second-round matchup against Monica Puig, but the Olympic gold medalist likely won't complain about the adjusted schedule. If she beats Danielle Collins, she will instead face No. 3 Karolina Pliskova.

Of course, that section of the bracket is still a difficult one. Garbine Muguruza is a top contender to make a deep run, although WTA noted another red-hot competitor lurking in that section:

Elina Svitolina, riding a 13-match win streak, draw into Muguruza's section, Serena's quarter. #BNPPO17

It's clear whoever advances to the semifinal in that section will have earned it with some tough matches, even without Williams.

Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Angelique Kerber also could have a rough path to the finals. The Australian Open account argued she could have as tough of a run as Williams would have had:

It's going to be an interesting tournament! Serena #Williams and Angelique #Kerber handed tough #BNPPO17 draws: https://t.co/VmqH4SYcbu

Kerber's first match will be against the winner of Vania King and Andrea Petkovic, which likely isn't ideal for the future No. 1 player in the world. Agnieszka Radwanska, Venus Williams and Elena Vesnina also loom in the bottom quarterfinal.

The absence of Serena Williams takes away one elite contender, but no one will have an easy road to a title in this tournament.

Andy Murray is the top seed and the No. 1 player in the world, although Novak Djokovic has won this event the last three years. This could lead to an exciting final if the seeds hold through the tournament.

However, the big story of the draw is the big names that find themselves all in the same quarterfinal.

Jose Morgado of the Diario Record described the notable portion of the draw:

This is unbelievable!!!!

José Morgado @ josemorgado

Bottom quarter potential R3 Nadal-Verdasco Federer-Johnson Zverev-Kyrgios Djokovic-Del Potro Only ONE will reach the SFs at IW.

On the plus side, Djokovic can't face both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The downside is it won't even be easy reaching this point with Juan Martin del Potro and Nick Kyrgios capable of causing problems early.

George Bellshaw of Metro noted the challenge right away:

George Bellshaw @ BellshawGeorge

Djokovic-Del Potro a potential third round tie! This is a nightmare draw for the Serb! #BNPPO17

The veteran stars of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal will help sell tickets, but every match from the third round on will be a serious challenge for one of the favorites.

The tournament's account was even surprised by the results of the draw:

BNP Paribas Open @ BNPPARIBASOPEN

That bottom quarter 🔥 #BNPPO17 https://t.co/8A23dSyyTF

Murray doesn't have the same type of problems, as Tennis TV joked:

Dodging your rivals in the #BNPPO17 draw like... https://t.co/AwJdK91QgF

Still, he projects a matchup against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals, a man who is playing as well as almost anyone in the world at the moment. The French star has won his last two tournaments and won't be an easy out on this hard court.

Compared to the rest of the bracket, though, Murray will enjoy his potential run.

Kei Nishikori also has to be satisfied by how things played out, giving the talented player a chance to surprise people with another strong showing.
